DR-SoundMeter
Version:26.2.2155
Published:2026-05-03
Introduction
DR-SoundMeter turns your device into a professional sound level meter that measures ambient noise in decibels (dB) and gives clear guidance about hearing safety. The app displays live dB readings, a visual gauge with classifications such as Quiet, OK, Loud and Harmful, and includes an exposure calculator based on NIOSH and OSHA rules so you can estimate safe exposure times. Suitable for musicians, workers, parents and researchers, DR-SoundMeter can save timestamped readings with optional GPS and visualize noise across locations.
Key Features
DR-SoundMeter provides real-time dB readings with a visual gauge and instant noise level classification, and tracks minimum, maximum and average dB during sessions while allowing a calibration offset for your device. A live audio chart shows noise trends and spikes with selectable time filters for 1 minute, 10 minutes, 1 hour or the full session. Hearing safety tools include an exposure calculator, selectable NIOSH or OSHA standards, an exposure timer and a limits table covering typical workplace ranges from 85 dB to 109 dB. A noise comparison guide maps readings to familiar sounds to help interpret results. You can save measurements with timestamps and custom location names, capture GPS coordinates automatically and view color-coded markers on an interactive noise map.
Advantages
DR-SoundMeter offers quick, actionable feedback to help you decide when to reduce exposure or use hearing protection. Built-in exposure calculations and warnings support workplace and event safety by notifying you before recommended limits are reached. Logged data and map visualization make surveys and tracking problem areas easier, while calibration options and light/dark themes let you tailor the tool to your device and preferences.
Disadvantages
Accuracy depends on the quality of the device microphone and may require careful calibration, so this app is not a substitute for a certified laboratory meter. GPS capture can be limited indoors, so location data may be unavailable or imprecise in some environments. Exposure estimates follow standard guidelines but do not replace professional occupational health assessments for complex or regulated situations.
