The app is mostly intelligible and efficient. I dislike, however, the interface about the videoplayer. Firstly, it is excessively tedious to exit the videoplayer plateforme as to return to the news article. The "exit" icon is fleeting and unobvious. Secondly, I strongly resent that there is categorically no option to skip back or to skip ahead throughout the entire duration of video advertisements. The CBC News app and its advertisers essentially hold you and your phone hostage. FiercelyDislike

Prior to October 2021, I'd have rated this app 4 stars. Now the app gets slow/unresponsive scrolling through news stories. It happens when I reach an ad embedded in the story. It is difficult to scroll past the ad: there is a lag & it feels like fighting to scroll past the ad. I believe this is intentional in the app design, to keep the ad on screen longer. Makes it much easier to accidentally tap the ad & be brought to viewing the full ad, giving CBC ad click revenue. 2.5 stars, not 3.

Decent app, although somewhat lacking in features, such as seamlessly integrated embedded videos. Sometimes there are irritating issues, such as clicking on a news alert and being taken to the main page of the app, not the story itself. Sometimes these breaking news stories can't even be located from the app's main page, and don't appear to exist yet. The ad structure they employ is also HIGHLY irritating, as the same ad will often play over and over again, sometime 3 or 4 times in a row. Makes me less likely to check the app, and more likely to turn to another news source. Besides these issues, I do enjoy their news stories, and although I feel CBC should really have more local stories from Vancouver Island, it's achieved a decent balance between local, national, and international stories.

The videos are preceded by half of minute of advertising. Then the video plays but crashes over 90% of the time. This has been my experience over the last 2 years. They haven't been able to resolve this problem. Very frustrated. Update: Still the same issues and now in some cases, CBC has increased the number of ads from 2 to 3 and increased the length of ads as well as added pop up ads to print stories. Too much for me. I'll find my news elsewhere and your content on YouTube instead.

Love CBC. However the latest version of the app has some annoying features. If you click on an article that only has a video it is more difficult to stop the ad from playing. Not great if you don't want sound coming from your device at that time. It used to be you could close the ad (you don't get to the video and that's fair) but now you get stuck in an endless loop trying to close the link altogether. Your only option is to close all your open apps on your phone.

It's fine... But 90% of the time I just wish I was in google chrome. Sharing with this app, you get a link that is tied to the app somehow and it just doesn't work well for others. So I end up Googling the story, copying the actual URL and pasting it... Frankly I don't share as much as I used to because of this... So as apps go, Probably the worst result they could have wanted. Edit : I actually uninstalled because I couldn't even open a link on Chrome without the app taking over.
